survey,survey, survey

Technology is used all over the world everywhere a person looks technology is being used. So what does that mean for our world today? Going into education it is interesting to see how much technology is used in teaching students. It makes me stop and think do I really understand technology? How much of it do I understand? Am I barely getting by? Well, in class we took a survey that really opened my eyes to how broad of a topic technology has become in the world.
The survey was broken up into six different categories. Each of these categories dealt with another part of technology. This survey helped me actually see where I was less confident in areas rather than what I have to work on. For some of the survey I did not understand what half the questions were asking. I was confused for most of the survey. It actually frustrated me that I did not know as much as I thought I did about technology.

How smart are you?

Do you ever wonder how people tell who is smart? Are their only book smarts? For a long time I have believed that I am not smart because I could not get straight A's in school. So what am I supposed to do in my life if I am not book smart. Well, in class the other day we talked about Gardner's multiple intelligences. We as a class actually took a quiz which I suggest you do the same(http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks3/ict/multiple_int/index.htm)
Anyways, my results actually were the strongest in intrapersonal which is being able to read people. Before this I never thought of that as a form of being smart. I realized though it is something I enjoy doing. Another area in which I was high was word smart and nature smart. As I reflected on these and my other results which can be found by typing in this code:cz2p520232xsz I found out that the things I am smart in are the things that I enjoy doing. For example, I love being outside and being around people. Those two things are some of my favorite things to do.
So how does this apply to teaching? Well, for me it gave me a broader perspective on that their is definitely more than book smarts out there. This exercise has taught me how to stop and think about how I can reach other students with the form of intelligence they have inside of them. Their is more than just multiple intelligences. I also took another quiz to identify how I learn some of the facts were surprising but again if makes sense. Overall, these two quizzes open at least my eyes to see how the world around me is not exactly like me in fact I learned that everyone learns just a little bit differently. Just like a snowflake, no two are exactly alike the same is true in an educational environment

The Benefits of copying other's work....

Have you ever worked in a group project where no one in the group could get together? Did it frustrate you to know end? Well then, I have a new solution for you! It is called google docs. This program is found on the Internet. It allows people to save a document on line and others can make comments and correct right on that document. This saves the problem of not getting the papers or even meeting together as a group. This program is great not only for students but also for teachers and principals. They can use technology to introduce to their students to different cultures in the United States and around the world. For more information on how google docs could affect teaching in schools and how it is affecting them already check out this link.

The new world are you ready?

Hey check out this video! In my last post I talked about how student's view the new world in which they live in and by this I mean the world of technology. Well, this video gives a different perspective, the perspectives from teachers today and those who love technology. One of the guys in the clip said that it is the "death of education but the beginning of learning". So what do you guys think about that statement. It is a shocker....death of education wait so what does that mean for us education majors... we will not have jobs in the future? Also this clip gave me a perspective that if life continues this way in technology then our schools are going to become places where social interaction happens online and never in person. I guess I am just wondering what will happen to future students if everything is completed by technology. Will students know how to interact with people outside of the Internet world? Will students get any exercise or will it have to consist of exercising with technology? Well, any thoughts?

Technology video

1. Name five reasons young people want to use technology?

The first reason that young people want to use technology is because it is the cool thing to do in today's culture. The second reason is because it is what they have always been taught to use. Another reason is that sometimes they do not even realize that they are learning while using the technology. The next reason is that technology connects young people to different parts of the world. The last reason is that technology is an easy resource for finding information regarding research.
2. Did you identify with any of the young people in the clip? Why?

Yes, I did identify with some of the young people in the video when it came to talking about technology because this is the culture in which I have lived in my whole life. Also, I use technology like facebook to keep in contact with those around me.
3. Do you agree that having instant access to everything via Internet helps you to know yourself better? Why or why not?

I would say that it does not help me get to know myself better. The reason for this is because I believe that having to research and try to do things without technology actually helps a person gain a sense of respect for hard work and other values. I think these values will disappear if students are given service always at there fingertips. This is true for me because I know that I would become lazy and just look up things on the Internet rather than finding a book and reading it. I think a lot of things will get lost if we allow technology to rule our lives.
4. Do you agree that technology helps pave the way to move forward as a civilization? Why or why not?

I think that technology in general is the way that civilization is moving forward. This is true no matter where I look the use of computers is becoming more and more common then other methods of doing things. I do not neccessarily belive that it is a good thing. I think that too much techonology wil only hurt society in the long run. God gave us brains for a reason to think without the help of the computer, but I am also not saying that computers should dissapper not at all. I think they have helped many people and will continue to help society. I just think we need to be cautious when it comes to relying on the technology more than the instinctive gifts that God has given us.
